Raw Meat Roller Skating Sept. 19: Back to Thunderbird Community Centre!
Hello Skaters! On Saturday, September 19, the Raw Meat Vancouver Roller Skating fall/winter session begins! From September 19 until April 2016, we’ll be at Thunderbird Community Centre, 2311 Cassiar St., Vancouver, every Saturday from 5-7 PM. Join us to learn to roller skate, roller derby style. Sessions at Thunderbird are $7 each. Sessions are drop-in, so come when you can.
Raw Meat sessions are always non-contact, and offer a fun introduction to the roller skating skills you’ll need if you decide to play roller derby one day. Not interested in derby, but just want to roller skate? You are welcome too! The skills we teach will take you around the seawall and beyond. You’ll learn how to safely fall, stop, skate with others, navigate (or jump over) obstacles, and more.
All skaters are required to have roller skates, helmet, wrist, knee and elbow pads, and a mouth guard. Thunderbird Community Centre also requires that toe stops be white or light, and all black knee pads be covered with (vertical) strips of white tape or felt knee-pad covers. If you’d like to try skating, but aren’t sure you are ready to commit to buying all the gear, you can now rent skate equipment from Rollergirl! Rollergirl is at 11th and Main St., and they’ll get you set up with everything you need to try roller skating. You’ll love it, I promise.
Raw Meat sessions are always non-contact, and we just have two rules: 1. Be safe, 2. Don’t be an ass-hat.
