Raw Meat Roller Skating Aug. 15: Penultimate Challenge
Planning to try out for a local league this fall? Excellent.
New to roller skates, and need to know the basics? Perfect.
Know everything there is to know, and just want to get on skates? Ideal.
No matter your experience on roller skates, this is the session for you! We only have two more sessions left at Royal City Curling Club (Aug. 15 and 22), and so we are going to make use of the beautiful floor while we have it. On the 15th, we’ll go over as many of the WFTDA basic skills as we can. These are the skills that any roller derby league will pull from in their tryouts.
On the 22nd, our special guest coach (and resident Authority Figure) Percy Riot will run you through your paces, to simulate try-out conditions.
Don’t know any of the basic skills? Not a problem. No matter where you are, this will help give you a baseline, so you know what you need to work on.
After August 22nd, we say good-bye to Royal City Curling Club for another year. We’ll be returning to Thunderbird Community Centre, 2311 Cassiar St., Vancouver, from 5 to 7 on Saturdays all through the fall and winter.
So, on Saturday, gather your gear and join us for the penultimate skate of the year at RCCC.
If that’s not enough roller derby awesome for you, check out In the Turn, a derby documentary playing at the Vancouver Queer Film Festival on Saturday, Aug. 15 at 6:45 PM at SFU Woodwards, with a repeat showing on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 9:15 PM.
Before the Saturday showing, at 5:30 PM in the SFU Woodwards Atrium, check out Roller Hijinks, an awesome pre-film party. We’ll be there!
