Raw Meat Roller Skating April 20: Testing, Testing, 1 2 3

Welcome to the first Raw Meat Roller Skating session of the year at Royal City Curling Club, 75 East 6th Avenue in New Westmisnter! On April 20, from 10 to noon, we will hold a skills test for our Meaty (Advanced) sessions. You must sign up to attend on the 20th. More information about the testing is here.

If you have already signed up, you should have received an email. If you think you signed up for testing and didn’t get an email, check your spam filters. Apparently, some email filters are suspicious of an email from “Raw Meat”! If you still can’t find the email, let me know at info (at) rawmeatvancouver (dot) com.

Next week, our regular summer session starts. From April 27 to August 31, Raw Meat Roller Skating will have two sessions every Saturday at Royal City Curling Club. (Note: there is no session on July 13.) Here are the details:

Meaty Sessions: 10 am to Noon

These are our advanced sessions. They will focus on advanced roller skating skills, endurance, and an introduction to roller derby rules and strategy. These sessions feature advanced skills, but continue to be non-contact.

A skills test is required to attend Meaty sessions. If you are a current league skater who has passed WFTDA basic skills (the old test), or an on-skates WFTDA referee, you are welcome to attend any time. Just drop in! If you would like to take the test, come to our 12:30 session and speak to a coach.

These sessions are $12. If you attend a Meaty session and stay to skate at a Lamb session, it is $18 for both.

Lamb Sessions: 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM

All levels of skater are welcome at this session from absolute beginner to amazeballs (Hi, All Stars! Come play with us some time!). We will go through basic roller skating skills, including stops, falls, agility, jumps, skating in proximity with others, pace lines, weaving and more. We’ll go through basic roller derby drills, in a safe, non-contact atmosphere. We’ll also play a lot of games (Roller skate soccer! Dodgeball! Gummy worms!). As long as you have all of your safety gear (quad skates; wrist, elbow and knee pads; helmet; mouth guard), just drop in to any session!

These sessions are $12.

Raw Meat Rules:

Raw Meat has two rules: 1. Be safe. 2. Don’t be an ass-hat. There is zero tolerance for breaking these rules.
All Raw Meat sessions are non-contact.

The Fall Schedule:

Raw Meat Roller Skating will return to Thunderbird Community Centre on September 14. Sessions will run every Saturday all fall at winter at Thunderbird from 5 to 7 PM.
