October 4: Pump Up the Jam!
Pump up the jam, pump it up
While your skates are stompin’
And the jam is pumpin’
Look ahead the crowd is jumpin’
Pump it up a little more
Get the skatin’ going on the dance floor
See ‘cos that’s where the party’s at
And you’ll find out if you’re too bad
I don’t want a place to stay
Get your body on the floor tonight, make my day
Come join us at Raw Meat Vancouver Roller Skating this Saturday, and let’s pump up the jam! The jammer skills, that is. We’ll take a look at agility, manoeuvrability, and how to get through a big pack of people. (Pro tip: don’t look at obstacles. Look at the empty spaces.)
Never been on skates? Don’t know the jammer line from raspberry jam? That’s ok! All of our drills can be scaled to your level of skating ability, from first timers to all-stars. We’ll show you stops, falls, agility, skating with others, jumps, and all the other basics you need to join a roller derby league, or just skate the seawall with confidence.
What to bring to Raw Meat Roller Skating:
You must have roller skates, and all safety gear: knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, helmet, and mouth guard. The venue also requires everyone to use white or light-coloured, non-marking toe stoppers. If your knee pads are black, please cover them with white, non-marking hockey tape. Vertical strips of tape work best. Sessions are $7, and take place every Saturday from 5-7 at Thunderbird Community Centre, 2311 Cassiar St.
Sessions are drop-in. Just grab your gear and come join us!
The rules:
Raw Meat has two rules: 1. Be Safe, 2. Don’t be an asshat. All sessions are non-contact.
