Roller Skate with Raw Meat Vancouver This December!

Happy December, everyone! Are you suffering from too much good cheer? Can’t handle another frackin’ repeat of Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer? Family fun time freaking you out? I’ve got the cure! Come to Raw Meat, and roller skate out all your stress. What could be more relaxing than two hours of sweat, drills, thrills, and even a spill or two?

Raw Meat will meet at Thunderbird Community Centre (2311 Cassiar St., Vancouver) on Dec. 4 and 11 from 5pm to 7pm, and then take a short break over the holidays, and we’ll be back Saturday, January 8. Our sessions are $7, and full safety gear is required.

Off-Skate Fitness Challenge

It’s been pretty depressing with the rain these days. It sucks not being able to roller skate outside. But, winter is the perfect time to cross-train and build up your general fitness so that you are stronger and more resistant to injury when the sun comes out again. I’d like to challenge everyone to hit the gym, go for a run, or just do some squats, lunges and pushups in front of the TV. If you need some inspiration, D.A. DaRuckus has found a great site for roller derby fitness:

Check out their partner workout—it looks like it could lead to even more cold-weather fun… Um…what was I saying? Oh, yes, fitness! The more you cross-train, the better you are going to be on the track. So, put in a couple of good workouts this week, and then come to Raw Meat and show off all your hard work.

See you Saturday!

PS: Random Trivia of the week: Did you know there is a National Museum of Roller Skating? There is! It’s in Nebraska. Neat-O!
