Raw Meat Roller Skating Sept. 1: Putting the “Ass” in Asphalt

When: September 1, 5-7 PM
Where: Thunderbird Community Centre, 2311 Cassiar St., around back at the basketball court
What: Two-hours of roller skating and roller derby fun!
How much: This session is free!

Join Raw Meat Roller Skating on September 1 for two hours of roller skating fun! This week, since tryouts for several local leagues are coming up soon, we’ll focus on the basic roller skating skills you may encounter at tryouts. The special twist? We’re practicing outside! Bring your outdoor wheels, tape up your skates, and get ready to get up close and personal with some asphalt. The floor at Thunderbird is undergoing some maintenance, so find us around the back of the community centre, at the basketball court. Since we are outside, this session is free. There’s no excuse not to come!

This week, our special guest coach is Fight Trash from the TCRG’s Faster Pussycats. This delicate English kitty will test your stiff upper lip as she puts you through your paces and shows you how they do it across the pond.

All levels of roller skaters are welcome at this session. If you are a beginner, we’ll help you learn the basic stops and falls safely, and give you a solid foundation of skills. If you are a skilled skater, we’ll keep things interesting with challenging drills and variations.

What to bring

Since this session will be on asphalt, be sure to bring lots of hockey tape to thoroughly cover the toes of your skates, and use outdoor wheels. You must have all safety gear to participate: wrist, elbow and knee pads, helmet and mouth guard.

Raw Meat has only two rules: 1. Be safe, 2. Don’t be an ass-hat.

Our Fall and Winter Skating Schedule

Next week, September 8, there is no Raw Meat session. Instead, join us at Kerrisdale Arena to watch the season finals for the TCRG. Starting on September 15, we’ll be back at Thunderbird Community Centre every Saturday from 5 to 7 PM all fall and winter.
