Welcome to the last Raw Meat of 2012! The year has gone by so fast, it’s hard to believe it’s almost Christmas. Take a break from all the festive shingdigs (and Festivus shingdigs, too) to strap on your roller skates, get your sweat on and your stress out. To honour the ancient Mayans, we’ve got a few drills that will make your quads wish it really was the end of the world.

Feel free to wear your ugliest Christmas sweater!

Are you new to roller skates? Get a head start on your New Year’s resolution and come on out to learn to skate. We’ll get you going safely, teach you to stop, and have you rolling around in no time. Experienced skater? We’ve got a few drills for you, too. And, in honour of the holidays, we’ve got some fun, festive games to play this session!

NOTE: This is the LAST Raw of 2012. There is no session on Dec. 22 or 29, but we are back at our usual time of 5-7 starting on January 5, and every Saturday through the winter.

What you’ll learn at Raw Meat Vancouver Roller Skating:

We’ll cover the basics of roller skating, including stops, falls, agility drills, skating form, roller skating in proximity with others, a few fun tricks, and some (non-contact) roller derby strategy drills.

All levels of roller skater, including beginners, are welcome. We’ll help beginners learn to skate, and give more advanced skaters some fun drills and games.

What to bring:

You must have roller skates, and all safety gear: knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, helmet, and mouth guard. The venue also requires everyone to use white or light-coloured, non-marking toe stoppers. If your knee pads are black, please cover them with white, non-marking hockey tape. Vertical strips of tape work best. Sessions are $7, and take place every Saturday from 5-7 at 2311 Cassiar St.

The rules:

Raw Meat has two rules: 1. Be Safe, 2. Don’t be an asshat. All sessions are non-contact.
