Join us Jan. 30, and learn to roller skate!

Come one, come all and roller skate with Raw Meat this Saturday. Whether you are putting on roller skates for the very first time, or you are an experienced roller derby veteran just looking for more time on skates, everyone is welcome.

At Raw Meat, you’ll learn the basics of roller skating and roller derby, including stops, falls, jumps, agility, skating backwards, transitions, weaving, pace lines, and more. You’ll learn all the skills you need to successfully try out for a roller derby league, except for one thing: our sessions are always non-contact. If you aren’t interested in derby, that’s ok too! Everything you’ll learn can be used for skating the seawall, and having fun on skates.

What are you waiting for? Roller skating is great exercise, and a tremendous amount of fun. If you don’t yet have the gear, you can buy everything you need from Rollergirl (www.rollergirl.ca), at 11th and Main St. Rollergirl also rents skates, so you can try it out before you commit.

To skate at Raw Meat Vancouver, you’ll need roller skates, helmet, mouth guard, wrist guards, elbow pads, and knee pads. You will also need white or light toe stoppers, and black knee pads must be covered in vertical strips of white tape. This is at the request of our venue, to avoid marking the floors.

All sessions at Raw Meat are $7. We meet every Saturday from 5-7 PM at Thunderbird Community Centre, 2311 Cassiar St., Vancouver.

We have just two rules: 1. Be safe. 2. Don’t be an ass-hat.

See you Saturday!
