Raw Meat Vancouver Roller Skating

UPDATE: Until further notice, June 18th, 2016 will be our last session. It has been wonder skating with you all! If you have any questions about learning to skate, or just want to meet up to learn a few things, please drop us a line at info@rawmeatvancouver.com.

Raw Meat is a group for women who want to learn roller skating skills, roller derby skills, and have fun. All levels of skaters are welcome, from beginner to advanced. Each session will feature a variety of skating and derby skill drills, including stopping (t-stop, plow stop, one-knee slide, two knee slide, etc.), proximity skating (skating in a line with other skaters), weaving through other skaters, and more. If you don’t know what any of these are, don’t worry. We will show you the moves, and you can progress at your own pace.

All sessions are drop-in. Come when you can, and skate as much as you can. We hope to see you every week. View our schedule here.

All winter until April 9, 2016, we meet at Thunderbird Community Centre, 2311 Cassiar St., Vancouver, every Saturday from 5 to 7 PM. Sessions at Thunderbird are $7.

Starting on April 16, we’ll move to Saturday mornings from 10 am to noon at Royal City Curling Club, 75 East 6th Avenue in New Westminster.

What to bring

Bring roller skates (quad skates), NO roller blades allowed. Full safety gear is also needed: knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, helmets. Mouth guards are required at all times. Raw Meat is a workout, so bring flexible, comfortable clothes that you can sweat in. You will wind up on the floor, so make sure you wear something that can get dirty.

For all sessions at Thunderbird Community Centre: Black toe stopper are NOT allowed. Only white or light-coloured toe stoppers are allowed, and you must cover black plastic knee pads with white or light tape. This is so we can protect the floors at Thunderbird.

Our rules

Raw Meat sessions are non-contact. We do not practice any hitting or contact drills, but we do touch other skaters, and skate in close proximity. Roller skating is a dangerous sport, and there is a high risk of injury. Skate with Raw Meat at your own risk! If you have any health concerns, check with your doctor before attending Raw Meat.

Raw Meat operates with two simple rules:

1. Don’t be an ass-hat

2. Be safe.

We feel these rules cover just about every situation, and we have a zero-tolerance policy for ass-hattery and unsafe behaviour.
