Raw Meat Vancouver Roller Skating

June 5: Growing Season

Summer is in full swing, and it’s time to stretch and grow your skills, little seedlings, under the (not so) tender ministrations of guest coach Mean Sprout. She’s little, she’s lithe, and she might look sweet, but one the track, she’s deadly.

Mean Sprout is a Raw Meat alumni, and she’s coming back to share her secrets. She’ll help you grow your agility, fertilize your footwork, seed your strength, and reap the rewards of your hard work.

Whether you are just lacing up your roller skates for the first time, or you are an experienced skater just looking for more time on eight wheels, Raw Meat is for you. Learn roller-derby-style roller skating, including: stops, falls, agility, skating with others, WFTDA basic skills, pack work, pace lines, and beginner roller derby strategy. Our sessions are always non-contact, so you can learn without fear (but we do get a little snuggly, so come prepared to get to know your neighbours).

Not interested in derby but you still want to learn to roller skate? That’s cool, too! The skills you’ll learn will help you skate defensively (and maybe a little offensively) around obstacles such as rocks, branches, random tourists and stray toddlers.

When: July 5, 10 AM – Noon
Where: Royal City Curling Club, 75 East 6th Avenue, New Westminster

What to bring to Raw Meat Roller Skating:

Every skater must have roller skates, a helmet, mouth guard, and wrist, knee and elbow pads—no exceptions. You’ll get sweaty, and you’ll hit the floor, so please dress accordingly.

Sessions are $12. Please bring cash, and exact change is appreciated. There is an ATM at Royal City Curling Club.

Our Schedule:

We’ll be at Royal City Curling Club, 75 East 6th Avenue in New Westminster, every Saturday from 10 AM to Noon all summer long, until August 30.

Starting in September, we’ll move back to Thunderbird Community Centre.

Our Rules:

1. Be safe.
2. Don’t be an Asshat.
